Bangladesh, Nepal to collectively produce hydropower

Bangladesh and Nepal agreed to work together in producing hydropower for mutual benefit.

Dhaka has already nominated members for a working group for hydropower and Kathmandu will do the same at the earliest to conduct a study, said Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Mohamed Mijarul Quayes after holding official talks with his Nepalese counterpart Durga Prasad Bhattarai in Dhaka.

"Water is flowing and the earlier we can take advantage of power it can generate the better it will be," Quayes said.

When asked about hydropower project on Saptokoshi River in Nepal, Quayes said it would not be appropriate for the secretaries to talk only about a single project.
