Bangladesh to build power plant with Japanese, Korean firms

Bangladesh's Power Development Board will set up a 399.28MW base-load combined cycle power plant.

The company has signed contracts with Japan's Marubeni Corporation and Korea's Hyundai Engineering & Construction co.Ltd for the project.

The Bibyana 3 power plant will have a total capacity of 399.28MW, with 273.57MW coming from the simple cycle unit.

The combined cycle unit of plant is scheduled for completion in 22 months, while the Simple cycle unit of this plant is scheduled for completion in 660 days.

The project has a budget of 2923 crore taka.

As per contracts, the plant will be combined cycle repayment period 10 years wit 3.28% interest.

The state-owned PDB will purchase electricity from these plants.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith said that through this big project, the government has finally proceeded towards resolving power crisis.
