
Bangladesh and India to develop coal-fired plant
India has signed an agreement with Bangladesh for the construction of a 2,600MW coal-fired plant in the Rampal area of the Bagerhat district, Bangladesh.
Under the joint venture, Bangladesh's Power Development Board and India's state-owned National Thermal Power Corporation have proposed to put the plant into operation by 2016.
The Ministry of Land has approved the acquisition of 1,834 acres of land at Sapmari Katakhali-Koigardaskathi area as part of the first phase of land acquisition.
The plant will be constructed in three phases and the first phase will involve developing the land for setting up construction materials and building infrastructure.
