ARENA launches first phase of $675m Solar Sunshot programme
This will fund solar PV manufacturing innovation and studies.
The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has opened the first phase of the $675m (A$1b) Solar Sunshot programme to support innovation in Australia’s solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing industry.
In a statement, ARENA announced two funding rounds totaling $370m (A$550m). Round 1A, with $338m (A$500m), will support solar PV manufacturing innovation, focusing on modules, inputs, and deployment systems. Round 1B, with $34m (A$50m), will fund solar PV manufacturing studies.
Solar Sunshot was announced by the Australian Government in March.
ARENA CEO Darren Miller said the programme aims to advance innovation to drive scale and diversity in a critical industry.
“Solar electricity will be the foundation of Australia’s future energy supply and the key to our net zero and renewable energy superpower ambitions,” Miller said. “The demand for solar required to meet our net zero and renewable energy superpower goals is immense and Australia has the opportunity to build resilience and unlock long-term economic opportunity.”
ARENA expects to announce future funding rounds under the Solar Sunshot Programme from mid 2025.
