Andhra Pradesh greenlights 10GW solar project

The government will create an affiliate of AP Power Generation Corporation.

The state government of Andhra Pradesh in India has approved a proposal to create 10GW of solar power plants. The objective is to supply farmers with quality power and ensure that they get nine hours of free electricity per day.

To do so, Andhra Pradesh will create an affiliate of its AP Power Generation Corporation, named Andhra Pradesh Green Energy Corporation. The plan was presented in February.

The state government is currently sponsoring its agricultural sector with subsidies to provide free power supply and lift irrigation schemes. The aid, which has been continuously increasing, costs more than $1.4b (INR100b) per year.
