Alinta Energy to develop 100 MW big battery in Australia

The battery will be delivered by early 2025.

Alinta Energy is developing a 100 megawatts (MW) two-hour big battery at Wagerup Power Station, supporting the stability of the South West Western Australia grid.

In a statement, Alinta Energy said it appointed Shanghai Electric Power Design Insititute Co. and Sunterra Pty Ltd. to deliver the battery by early 2025.

“The battery will connect to existing high voltage infrastructure at the Wagerup Power Station, and is scheduled to be commissioned during the second half of 2024,” said Alinta Energy Chief Development Officer Ken Woolley.

Works for the project located around 120 kilometres south of Perth will start immediately, the company said.
