ACWA Power and Tunisia partner for green hydrogen project

This will support Tunisia’s strategy of exporting green hydrogen to Europe.

Saudi-based ACWA Power signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tunisian Government for the potential development of a green hydrogen facility in which produce will be exported to Europe.

In a statement, ACWA said the project could be developed in three phases and capable of producing up to 600,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.

Fatma Thabet Chiboub, Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy in Tunisia, and ACWA Power CEO Marco Arcelli signed the memorandum.

Ouael Chouchene, Tunisian Secretary of State for Energy Transition, said the project is aligned with the country’s national green hydrogen strategy which targets to produce 8.3 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually and by-products by 2050.

The strategy also includes exporting over six million tonnes of green hydrogen to Europe by 2050.

“This project can also contribute significantly to economic growth, job creation, and sustainable energy solutions, exemplifying our shared vision for a greener future,” Arcelli said.
