ACEN, YEC get environmental approval for 150 MW solar project in Pilbara
It is the first solar project assessed under WA’s Green Energy Approvals Initiative.
The Western Australian government has granted environmental approval to ACEN Australia and Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation (YEC) for their first solar project of up to 150 megawatts.
In a statement, the government said the project will be located within a 13,000 square kilometre area in the Pilbara covered by the Yindjibarndi Native Title Determination Area.
This is the first project assessed as part of the state’s Green Energy Approvals Initiative.
Environment and Climate Action Minister Reece Whitby said the project is what the government wants to see more in the state.
"With the potential to decarbonise our State's energy systems, create On Country jobs for Aboriginal Australians, and support renewable energy uptake by industry in the Pilbara, I look forward to seeing Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation's proposals come to fruition," he said.
