ABB wins $22 million Indian power orders

ABB sealed $22 million worth of deals to provide four turnkey substations for the regional grid in northern India.

Its services was tapped by the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited, a state-owned power utility in northern India.

The four substations will transmit electricity from new power generation plants in the region as part of a significant program to strengthen the state’s transmission network and improve energy efficiency. The Haryana Power System Improvement Project has financial support from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, part of the World Bank, and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2011.

ABB will deliver four 220 kilovolt air-insulated substations equipped with IEC 61850-compliant automation, protection and control systems. The scope of the project covers design, supply, installation and commissioning of the substations and associated equipment, which includes switchgear and power transformers.

"These substations will help to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the transmission network in the state, improving power supplies to consumers and supporting economic development in the region,” said Peter Leupp, head of ABB's Power Systems division.
