India to build power packs for Pakistani waste-to-energy program

Pakistan seeks solutions to crippling power crisis.

Indian makers of high pressure boilers that transform bagasse into energy recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with their Pakistani to counterparts to jointly manufacture these units.

The joint venture brings together India’s Cheema Boilers Ltd, a manufacturer of high pressure boilers, and Pakistan’s Triveni, a turbine manufacturer, and the Haseeb Waqas Group of Companies.

The JV hopes to reduce the price of making high pressure boilers, also called power packs, to US$6.8 million from the current US$9.8 million.

The Indo-Pakistan JV plans to manufacture the power packs to meet the energy needs of Pakistani sugar mills and allied industries through the production of cheap electricity with bagasse as the main fuel.

The new government of Pakistan under PM Nawaz Sharif has made abetting Pakistan’s persistent power crisis its top priority, especially by tapping alternative energy sources.
