China, UK enhance partnership in carbon capture technologies

Sign 10-year MOU to this effect.

China and the United Kingdom have executed a Memorandum of Understanding to launch an initiative that will bring together their leading researchers in carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technologies. Leading CCUS research bodies from the UK and China met in London’s Lancaster House last week to sign the MOU for fostering increased cooperation between both sides.

Among the institutions involved in the initiative are the UK Carbon Capture and Storage Research Centre; the Scottish Carbon Capture and Storage; the Guangdong Low-Carbon Technology and Industry Research Center and the Clean-Fossil Energy Development Institute in China’s Guangdong province. Signatories to the agreement hope it will lead to the formation of a global CCUS network that will in turn facilitate collaborative research and development and the sharing of information between local and regional governments.

The agreement focuses in particular on the CCUS industry of Guangdong province. The signatories agreed to provide advice and support to the Guangdong International CCUS Industry and Academic Collaboration Promotion Network.
