Bengal to build first nuclear power plant
Plans for this plant not yet deleted.
The former chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India Srikumar Banerjee claims it’s possible for Bengal to have its first nuclear power plant at Haripur.
He pointed out that India needs at least five nuclear power plants. The government has signed an agreement with Russia to collaborate on building these plants, including the one at Haripur, he said.
He noted that the scheme to build the Haripur plant was not yet deleted but has to be preceded by appropriate background work, which includes taking people into confidence.
It is the responsibility of those associated with the project to try and convince people about the importance of the project, he said.
