TNB, Petronas partner to develop CCS for gas-fired plants

The MoU will support Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap for net zero carbon.

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Petronas signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate in the development of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology for gas-fired power plants.

Through the MoU, both parties broadened their commitment to Malaysia's National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, translating the statutes under the roadmap into achievable solutions.

“The MoU resonates with TNB’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda signifying our unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability through the exploration of CCS technology and aligning with Malaysia’s NETR,” Dato' Seri Ir. Baharin Din, CEO of TNB, stated.

With Malaysia shifting to a low-carbon economy, natural gas will be critical in the country’s energy transition, from its integration into the power grid to its access as a transitional baseload power source for average consumers.
