Taiwan changes dispatch model for stable supply

The move comes as the market's renewable capacity increases.

Taiwan's state-owned power utility firm Taiwan Power Company has implemented changes in its dispatch model to ensure the stability of its power supply as the proportion of green energy grows.

In a statement, the previous model of the Ministry of Economic Affairs Energy Administration involved high electric daily peak loads and the continuous utilisation of water for power generation.

The addition of green energy in the current model allowed pumped-storage units to pump water for energy storage during the day and release water at night for power generation, aiding the demand during the peak loads from 6 pm to 9 pm.

"Taipower will continue to adjust its dispatching strategy through flexible use of pumped storage capacity, time-of-use pricing, ancillary services, in conjunction with the refinement of dispatching strategies on traditional power units to guarantee stable power supply," the ministry said.
