South Korea greenlights biofuel oil for power generation
The government is pushing for the use of cleaner energy sources.
South Korean utilities are now allowed to use biofuel oil for power generation as the government attempts to reduce emissions and push for the use of cleaner energy sources, Reuters reports, citing an official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy.
The country’s energy ministry revised a petroleum business law last year to allow power utilities to use biofuel oil as an alternative fuel source to generate electricity
The revised law came into force from 1 January 2019, but the process of verifying the quality of biofuel oil took longer. The usage of this oil for power is effective on 15 March, the ministry official said.
The use of biofuel oil will be at the discretion of utilities, the official added.
