Siemens to supply turbines, generators to PLN's coal-fired plant

PLN will buy turbines and generators for its coal-fired power plants from PT Siemens Industrial Power.

PLN president director Nur Pamudji sealed the deal by signing an MoU with SIP president director Dierk Unterspann in Bandung, West Java. Under the first phase of the MoU, SIP will provide and maintain four steam turbines and generators each with an individual capacity of 7 MW, for PLN’s Timika power plant in Papua.

SIP produces turbines and generator with a capacity of up to 20 megawatts.

“PLN has identified 15 locations with power plants below 20 MW that are in need of turbines and generators. We hope that SIP can fulfill their needs and therefore we won’t need to import the equipment,” said Pamudji

PLN was also eyeing 200 other plants with a capacity under 3 MW for potential upgrades with SIP equipment, Pamudji said.
