Renova unit’s biomass plant supplies power to NTT Docomo

The plant began selling on long-term fixed-price contracts with power retailers in 2023.

The 20.5-megawatt Akita Biomass Power Plant has begun supplying electricity in the Tokhoku Region through NTT Anode Energy Corporation, with the generated power to be used at some NTT Docomo facilities.

In a statement, Renova said the power plant is owned by its subsidiary United Renewable Energy Co.

Some of the NTT Docomo’s facilities in the Tohoku region that will use the power supply from the biomass power plant include the NTT Docomo Akita Building, marking the first time the company used electricity from biomass.

Starting operations in 2016, Akita Biomass Power Plant has been selling electricity to general power transmission and distribution operators under the feed-in-tariff system.

Since 2023, it shifted to selling power based on long-term fixed-price contracts signed with retail power suppliers following certification by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry.
