Nickel Asia unit, Shell partner to develop RE in the Philippines
The joint venture plans to add 1GW capacity by 2028.
Emerging Power Inc. (EPI), a Nickel Asia Corp. (NAC) subsidiary, has entered into a joint venture with Shell Overseas Investments B.V. (Shell) to develop 1 gigawatt (GW) of renewable capacity by 2028.
The EPI-Shell venture plans to contribute up to 3GW additional capacity to the Philippines through a series of projects in Luzon and Visayas.
“This partnership would allow both companies to boost the supply of renewable energy in the Philippines and is in line with NAC’s vision to become the premier ESG investment in the country,” NAC President and CEO Martin Antonio G. Zamora said.

The joint venture will particularly focus on developing utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV), but will also look into onshore wind and energy storage systems.
Citing industry data, a gigawatt of solar PV can power the annual daytime consumption of more than 1.2 million homes in the country, where a typical household consumes 200 kilowatt-hours per month.
“This Shell-EPI partnership will leverage Shell’s technical expertise and integrated solutions as a global energy company and EPI’s strong presence in the Philippines,” Lorelie Q. Osial, Country Chair of the Shell Companies in the Philippines said.
“Together, we can power progress for the Philippines through sustainable energy for industries and homes.”
