Korea, Czech Republic partner to develop nuclear, hydrogen

The two states signed ten memoranda of understanding.

South Korea and Czech Republic have signed a total of ten memoranda of understanding to cooperate in the development of nuclear energy and hydrogen.

The MOUs were signed in the presence of Trade, Industry, and Energy Minister Lee Chang-yang, Czech Industry and Trade Minister Jozef Sikela, nine Korean companies and 21 Czech companies and institutions.

Lee said the South Korean government had received an invitation to bid when the Czech Republic launched a tender in March 2022 for its nuclear plant project.

“The Czech Republic is just as committed to deploying nuclear power as an important energy source,” according to Sikela.

He also welcomed the bid participation of “like-minded” countries like South Korea that value freedom and democracy.

On top of their cooperation in nuclear energy, South korea and the Czech Republic will also partner in achieving the early commercialisation, global market penetration, and the production-transport-utilisation of hydrogen.

The cooperation will also extend to other industries, such as defense, electric vehicles, batteries, chips and bio.
