Japan forms team for safety of ageing nuclear power plants
The new system will require operators to create a long-term facility management plan.
The Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) of Japan has formed a team to address the safety of ageing nuclear power plants (NPPs), the Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF) reported.
The team will include Commissioner Sugiyama Tomoyuki, and staff from the NRA Secretariat as members.

The NRA also decided to create a new system as well as draft proposed revisions to a related bill.
The new system provides that operators should be required to issue a “long-term facility management plan” at the 30th year of NPPs and every ten years thereafter. Plants should also pass a safety examination.
