How Indian states can catch up in the clean energy transition?

A report found renewable energy-rich states are not utilising their full potential. 

Indian states will need to ramp up their renewable energy capacity and storage, a report recommended after it found some states lagging in their clean energy transition. 

In a report, published by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis and Ember, it was recommended that Indian states should take a multi-dimensional approach towards the transition. 

This will include efforts on the demand side, particularly implementing an energy-efficient intervention. States should also shed more light on strengthening their power systems.

‘Even the long-considered front-runners of adding renewable energy capacity, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, have to improve the readiness of their power ecosystems for a clean electricity transition,” Aditya Lolla, Senior Electricity Policy Analyst, Ember, said.

“State energy departments also need to strengthen electricity infrastructure for better integration of renewables. In addition to managing the demand and supply of electricity, ensuring effective utilisation, monitoring, and tracking of electrons is also very important.”
