China’s solar capacity installation crashes by 82% QoQ in Q1 2021

But increased by 35% YoY compared to Q1 2020.

China installed 5.33 GW of solar capacity in Q1 2021, a sharp decline from the 29.5 GW worth of projects that were installed in Q4 2020, according to the National Energy Administration (NEA).

Comparison by YoY, however, saw China increased its solar capacity by 35% from 3.95 GW in Q1 2020.

According to data released by NEA, total solar installations in China reached 258.5 GW by the end of Q1 2021 with the province of Shandong leading the way with a cumulative installation of 23.8 GW followed by Hebei at 22.18 and Jiangsu at 17.23 GW.

In 2020, China saw a total of 48.2 GW of solar capacity, a 60% YoY increase compared to 30.11 GW installed the previous year.
