China added over 7.5GW of wind in H1

Northeast China, Inner Mongolia, and Northwest China comprise 35% of wind power capacity.

Newly-added grid capacity of wind power in China exceeded 7.5 GW in the first half of 2018, marking an increase of about 30% YoY, the National Energy Administration (NEA) revealed.

National wind power generation capacity was 191.7 billion kWh, up 28.7% YoY, whilst the average utilization hours was 1,143 hours, an increase of 159 hours YoY.

NEA also noted that the overall situation of wind curtailment is progressing positively as total abandoned wind power dipped by 5.3 billion kWh to 18.2 billion kWh in H1. Abandonment rate was 8.7%, down by 5 ppt from last year.

The total installed capacity of wind power in Northeast China, Inner Mongolia, and Northwest China is 2.75 GW, accounting for 35% of the newly added wind power grid capacity in the country.

Moreover, offshore wind power added a new grid capacity of 157 MW. As of the end of June, the cumulative installed capacity of offshore wind power was 2.7 GW, mainly concentrated in Shanghai (300 MW) in East China, Jiangsu (2.2 GW), and Fujian (140 kW).
