CGN plugs in Yangjiang-5 reactor to Chinese grid

It is the first Chinese unit that features domestically-developed control system.

The Chinese state-run nuclear group China General Nuclear (CGN) has connected the Yangjiang-5 ACPR1000 type nuclear reactor in the Guangdong province of China to the domestic grid. The unit broke ground in 2013 and will enter commercial operation later in 2018. It is the first Chinese unit to feature a domestically-developed digital control system.

In total, six units will be built at the Yangjiang site.The first four units are CPR-1000s, which were commissioned in March 2015, June 2015, January 2016 and March 2017, respectively. The last two units, Yangjiang-5 and Yangjiang-6, are ACPR-1000s, which are expected to be fully operational by 2019.
