Australia’s Victorian Government bares energy strategy

This includes support for long-duration storage projects.

The Victorian Government laid out the plans for its 12-year strategy for the State Electricity Commission (SEC), committing its support for 4.5 gigawatts of clean energy development.

Speaking at the Careers for Net Zero Fair by the Clean Energy Council (CEC), the government also announced funding for domestic electrification and support for long-duration storage projects.

The government will also allow Victorian manufacturers, schools, and hospitals to purchase retail and wholesale electricity directly from SEC.

CEC Chief Executive Kane Thornton said that governments should ensure “they strike the right balance.”

“The industry has capital that is ready to be deployed, and we welcome the government's acknowledgement of the importance of partnerships and the role in leveraging enormous private sector investment,” he said.

"We look forward to working closely to ensure the implementation of the important principle,” he added.

Thornton added that long-duration storage projects will play a vital role in the energy sector in the future.
