Asia accounts for over half of new RE capacity in 2022
China led the growth with the addition of 141GW during the period.
Asia dominated the new renewables capacity globally, accounting for about 60% of the newly installed capacity adding 174.9 gigawatts (GW) in 2022.
In a report, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) said the new additions bring Asia’s total renewable energy to 1.63 terawatts (TW) or 48% of the global capacity.

China accounted for the huge increase in the region after deploying 141GW of renewable capacity last year.
The region is followed by Europe which saw 57.3 GW of new capacity or an 8.8% growth, and North America with 29.1GW new installations or a 6.3% increase.
