Adani Transmission to buy power line operator for $172m

This could bring the company’s cumulative network to 15,400 circuit kilometres.

India’s Adani Transmission (ATL) is acquiring Alipurduar Transmission, which operates transmission lines aggregating to around 650 circuit kilometres in West Bengal and Bihar, from Kalpataru Power Transmission (KPTL) for $171.52m (INR 1,286 crore), according to a press release.

The project was awarded through a competitive bidding process on a build, own, operate, maintain basis. Element 1 of the project consisting of the transmission line from Alipurduar to Siliguri was commissioned on 20 January, and Element 2 of the project consisting of the transmission line from Kishanganj to Darbhanga was commissioned in March 2019.

With this acquisition, the cumulative network of ATL will reach more than 15,400 circuit kilometres. With this scale of operations, ATL will enjoy substantial benefits in terms of cost optimisation and shared resources.

The acquisition is expected to be completed in a few months, subject to all necessary regulatory approvals and other consents.
