Malaysia's Sarawak state wants 10% in Petronas' Bintulu 9 LNG plant
The new unit was commissioned in January 2017.
The state government of Sarawak in Malaysia has entered negotiations with Malaysian national oil company Petronas to acquire a 10% stake in the ninth gas liquefaction train at its Malaysia LNG complex in Bintulu, Sarawak (Malaysia), according to Enerdata.
The new 3.6 Mt/year LNG train was commissioned in January 2017, raising the total liquefaction capacity of the 26 Mt/year Malaysia LNG complex to nearly 30 Mt/year. Petronas is the main shareholder (90%) and operator; Japanese oil company JX Nippon Oil & Energy (JX NOE) acquired a 10% stake in June 2016.
"In addition, the government of Sarawak is discussing a larger equity in the Malaysia LNG Dua (MLNG 2) plant, consisting of three 2.7 Mt/year units commissioned in 1995-1996 (8.1 Mt/year)," Enerdata said.
