Smoggy city in China eyes slashing coal consumption by 15m tonnes
This is just in 4 years.
According to report, Shijiazhuang, one of China’s smoggiest cities, is targeting to cut down 15 million tonnes from its coal consumption by 2018. This is inclusive of a 4-million ton cut this 2014.
A city official also said that they are planning to minimize iron and steel, ceramics, chemical fertiliser production, and coal carbonisation to further reduce emissions.
It was last year when the city splurged 3 billlion yuan or US$495m and a further 8.5 billion yuan from social funds on pollution control and improvement of ecological situation.
