Osaka Gas, ACE Power to partner for RE projects in Australia

The deal includes utility-scale solar and battery storage projects, capable of more than 500MW.

Japan-based energy firm Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. has finalised a deal with Australia-based renewables developer ACE Power to mutually develop a large-scale portfolio of utility-scale solar and battery projects holding a projected 500-megawatt capacity in New South Wales and Queensland.

The partnership is the first utility-scale renewable investment for Osaka Gas’ subsidiary, Osaka Gas Energy Oceania Pty Ltd (OGEO) in Australia since their wind power project Hallett 4 in 2009.

“OGEO is pleased to partner with ACE, an experienced developer, focused on collaborating with local communities to develop clean energy projects that will generate positive benefits to the community and the environment. The partnership with ACE launches our revived focus on renewables investments, in line with our Carbon Neutral Vision which has significant strategic synergies with our long-term e-methane goals,” OGEO Director Yo Otsuka said.

The joint development, Project Genesis, will focus on the expansion of the Portfolio, with the aim of a long-term partnership.

Osaka Gas aims to become carbon-neutral by 2050.
