MTI names Puah Kok Keong as new chief executive of Energy Market Authority

He will assume his post on 8 July.

Puah Kok Keong has been appointed as the new chief executive of the Energy Market Authority (EMA), effective 8 July, the Ministry of Trade and Industry announced.

He will replace Ngiam Shih Chun, who will take on the role of deputy secretary (Policy) at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Puah has been the deputy secretary (Policy) at MHA since August 2016, where he oversaw policy, planning, international cooperation, research and statistics, legal services, and psychological services. His tenure included significant policy and legislative reviews, including the new Gambling Control Act and the restructuring of the Casino Regulatory Authority into the Gambling Regulatory Authority.

He also led the Home Team Transformation initiative, enhancing operations, capabilities, and community partnerships, and was instrumental in securing Singapore’s membership on the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs. Additionally, Puah rebranded the Singapore Corporation of Rehabilitative Enterprises to Yellow Ribbon Singapore, expanding support for ex-offenders. He also previously worked in MTI’s Energy Division from 2006 to 2008.
