EMA, KETEP expand deal on advancing energy technology

This will boost Singapore’s efforts to decarbonise its power system.

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) and Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning (KETEP) have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance their collaboration in various areas related to energy technology through information sharing.

Prior to this, EMA and KETEP signed a deal on Joint Research and Development Projects in March 2019 to cooperate and engage in joint research and development projects in smart grids and energy technologies.

Under the latest deal, EMA said some of the areas that will be covered are energy efficiency, renewable energy, smart grids, energy storage systems, carbon capture and storage, and information exchange.

The parties will conduct workshops, symposia and/or training programmes, as well as launch calls for research and development in the said areas. Results of relevant projects will be shared to facilitate commercialisation opportunities for these technologies.

Singapore said this is in line with its efforts to decarbonise its power system and meet the city-state’s next zero emissions target by 2050.

EMA has also expanded its partnership with Korea Gas Corporation for the exploration of the joint procurement of liquefied natural gas.
