Countrywide Hydrogen bags $5.3m government package for flagship project

It is expected to start production in early 2026.

Australia-based renewable hydrogen developer Countrywide Hydrogen received $5.3m (A$8m) in funding from the Tasmanian Government to boost its flagship green hydrogen project in the state.

In a statement, Countrywide said the funding, the first of its kind in Australia, was granted under the Green Hydrogen Price Reduction Scheme and will be paid on the delivery of green hydrogen to customers from the sites of the Hydrogen HyWay#1 project.

“Our initial green hydrogen production and refuelling projects will be near Devonport in the north and Hobart in the south to enable road transport operators and their customers access to zero-emission freight services to deliver their emissions reductions targets,” said Countrywide Managing Director Geoff Drucker.

“With first production targeted for early 2026 at both sites, we have a book of customers ready to transition to hydrogen-powered vehicles in the heavy transport sector, and a Hydrogen HyWay model that can be copied and pasted throughout the nation.”

The project initially focuses on the heavy transport sector and possible industrial applications.
