Total applies for electricity retailer license in Australia

Total has applied to the Australian Energy Regulator AER for an electricity retailer license, as the company aims to reach 9 million electricity customers worldwide by 2023.
Through its Total Eren subsidiary, the company is currently building a 256MW solar project in Australia, which should generate around 2 TWh/year of electricity. The gas firm already sells electricity to the Gladstone LNG project in Queensland and plans to supply electricity to other large customers in the eastern states of Australia.
In 2019, Shell entered the Australian power market with the acquisition of the second largest energy retailer, ERM Power.
