TEPCO starts survey for domestic offshore wind farm

It will last up to the end of January 2019.

Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) started a seabed survey offshore Japan to study the bedrock structure for a potential offshore wind farm, Subsea Worldnews reports. The survey is conducted off the coast of municipalities of Choshi, Asahi, Sosa and Yokoshibahikari in Chiba Prefecture.

The survey will last up until the end of January 2019. This is in line with the company’s goal to develop 7GW of renewables and focus on offshore wind projects.

The report added that TEPCO began conducting research offshore Choshi in 2009 and has since then surveyed weather conditions, sea life and the potential environmental impact of offshore structures in the area.

The company, alongside the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), also has been testing an offshore wind power generation facility, a fixed-foundation offshore turbine with a rated power of 2,400 kW south of Choshi.
