Magnitude 5 quake shakes Tokyo, Tokai NPP operations get suspended
2.0-magnitude aftershocks rattled areas near Tokai NPP.
Japan's Meteorological Agency reported a 5.0 magnitude earthquake on Sunday. It occurred in the Ibaraki Prefecture, just 129km away from Tokyo. The magnitude was strong enough to be felt by most of the residents in the affected area.
Tokai NPP's operation has been suspended to check the state of nuclear reactors. As of reporting, there were no failures.
It was just 5 years ago when Japan suffered a 9.0-magnitude offshore quake that triggered a 46-foot tsunami. It hit Japan's Fukushima nuclear power and has lead to the world's worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl.
