Indonesia's Batan names Bangka Belitong as recommended site for nuke plant

It's a strategic spot to supply power to Sumatra.

Indonesia's National Atomic Energy Agency proposed building nuclear power plants in Bangka Belitong Province.

Bangka Belitong, lying at the east of Sumatra, is composed of granite and thus, has the ability and strength to endure nuclear power plant construction.

"Bangka Island is relatively safe from earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions," Batan Head Djarot Sulistio Wisnusubroto said in a report.

Developing a nuclear plant in Bangka Island is also considered a strategic move given that Sumatra lies not far from it and can benefit from nuclear power to electrify the island.
