These plants are over 25 years old.

NTPC, India's largest power generator, said that it will phase out power plants that are over 25 years old. These old plants have a total capacity of 11,000MW.

Minister Piyush Goyal added that the project will take almost 5 years to complete and will cost Rs 50,000 crore.

He added that it is concerning that India still runs very old power plants that leads to high carbon dioxide emission.
