First phase of Yunlin solar project in Taiwan goes online: Vena Energy

The project, which has 340,000 PV solar panels, has the capacity of 134MW.

The first phase of the “Yunlin” solar project in Taiwan has started its commercial operation, Vena Energy reported.

The project, which features 340,000 photovoltaic solar panels, has a capacity of 134 megawatts (MW). It is located at a 300-hectare reclaimed land off the coast of the Taixi Township in Southern Taiwan.

“Despite the strong northeastern monsoons, material shortages, and the precautions required during the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, we were able to deliver the first phase of the Yunlin Solar Project on schedule, thanks to the strong support from 73 local companies in Taiwan,” XS Koo, Head of Vena Energy Taiwan, said.

“With this project, we reinforce our commitment to enabling Taiwan to achieve its 20GW renewable energy target by 2025, and we look forward to working with our local stakeholders, and for the next generation of sustainability-minded professionals to join us in achieving our goals.”

According to Vena Energy, the project can power more than 31,000 households with clean energy.

It is also comparable to saving nearly 152 million tonnes of water as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions by over 107,400 tonnes annually.
