China's power consumption shot through the roof by 8.17pct to 552.3 billion kWh, according to a report by Reuters.
"Power consumption totalled 3.31 trillion kilowatt hours in the first seven months of this year, up 3.6 percent from the same period last year," said Zhao Chenxin, spokesman for the National Development and Reform Commission.
According to the BP Statistical Review,
China remained to be the world's largest energy consumer and accounted for 23% of global energy consumption and 34% of net global energy growth.
