
Telangana eyes hiking power generation capacity up to 28GW
It will shell out $14b for the project.
The government of the Telangana state in India has set a target of increasing the state's installed generation capacity up to 28,000MW with an investment of Rs 94,000 crore (around US$14b). The state aims at reaching power surplus (it had an installed capacity of 6,574 MW when founded in June 2014 and a 2,700MW power deficit) and added 7,981MW since then.
Telangana plans to generate an additional 13,752MW, including 4,000 MW at the Yadadri Ultra Mega Power Plant. 1,880MW of power will be available by 2018 through two power plants which are under construction at Manuguru and Kothagudem and NTPC is building another 1,600MW.
