
Indian utility NTPC to acquire Rajasthan coal power plant
NTPC will take over 1GW Chhabra plant's four 250MW units.
Indian state utility firm NTPC has bought Chhabra thermal power plant, owned and operated by the Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd.
NTPC will pay around US$1.029b (Rs5,000 crore) for the operational 1000MW. NTPC will own the 1GW Chhabra power plant's four 250MW units by March.
Two supercritical 660MW units are currently under construction, and these will be transferred to NTPC after being commissioned.
Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd has been looking for buyers for three years now. Initial project bidders included Tata Power, Adani Power, and a joint bid from AES India and Macquarie Group.
