NTPC will try to complete Uttarakhand projects
NTPC will hold on to its projects in Uttarakhand despite a series of setback.
The company was originally allotted with 4 projects with a capacity over 1550 Mw. But the National Ganga River Basin Authority or NGRBA last month decided to close the two NTPC projects despite a huge investment of over Rs 650 crore.
National Thermal Power Corporation’s 261 Mw Khasiabara project in Pithoragarh district was scrapped due to environmental concerns, and later its 600MW Loharinag Pala in Uttarkashi district to fell prey to religious sentiments.
The National Thermal Power Corporation is left with the 520 Mw Topovan Vishnugad and 171 Mw Lata Topovan. But the latter has not made any progress so far.
“Uttarakhand may be a problematic state, but since the matter related to projects is a national priority, we will try our best to complete all those projects where we have already made commitments,” said an official of NTPC.
