Bangladesh to source 100MW from solid waste

Two separate power plants will soon generate 100MW electricity based on solid waste in Bangladesh.

The Management Environment Finance SRL Ltd, an Italian firm, will set up the power plants at Amin Bazar and Mautal in Dhaka.

The government has signed an agreement in this regard where the Italian company will invest $ 300 million for the construction of the two power plants. Each plant will generate 50MW electricity.

The company will start supplying power from the projeeccts to the national grid after 36 months from the date of agreement.

The Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) Limited, Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) and Rural Electrification Board (REB) will purchase power from MEF at Taka 8.75 per unit (kilowatt-hour) for the next 20 years.
