India's 2,300MW capacity taken off-stream
Power units aggregating 2,325MW and thirty five transmission lines collapsed in India.
The incident forced outages on January 11, 2013.
The 500 MW unit 1 of the Rihand-III super thermal power station in the northern region was taken offline due to boiler tube leakage. The 125 MW unit 1 of the Barsingar lignite based power plant in the region was also forced to shut down as it developed a fault in an induced draft fan.
In the southern region, the 210 MW unit 4 of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board's power plant suffered from a boiler tube leakage while the 210 MW unit 5 of the Vijaywada TPS developed a problem in the high pressure heater.
Five units, aggregating 1,280 MW capacity, were taken offline in the western region, including units 5 and 6 of the Koradi power plant in Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, smooth transmission of power was also obstructed by various faults in transmission lines.
In the northern region, eight transmission lines were manually taken out of service due to high voltage. These lines will be restored subject to voltage permissibility.
Three lines including the 400 kV Baripada-Mendhasal-I and 400 kV Patna-Barh-IV transmission lines were also forced to shut down in the eastern region.
Moreover, eight transmission lines in the southern region and sixteen transmission lines in the western region failed on Friday.
