Pakistan govt unable to supply fuel to power plants

Power shortfall continues to increase in Pakistan as the government is unable to supply fuel to the plants claiming loss of infrastructure in the recent past rains.

To make matters worse, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd has curtailed gas supply to several power plants.

Due to decreased gas supply, the power generation has been shrunk by 680 megawatt as SNGPL has curtailed 57MMCFD gas to SAIF, Halmore, Saphire and 30 MMCFD to Engro due to tripping of Qadirpur Gas Field.

Guddu Power Plant administration still has not been able to get rid of water accumulated at the plant due to heavy rains in the recent past that also has reduced generation more than 400 megawatt.

Government authorities have decided that while the Qadir Pur is not yet restored, fuel supply will be increased to the power plants to maintain the power supply in the country.

At present, demand of energy in the country stands at 14,200 megawatt against the total generation of 10,565MW and the load shedding hours have been increased in several areas of the country.
