Northern India may again face blackouts

India’s northern states including the capital, New Delhi, brace for another series of blackouts.

Three hydro-power plants that together supply 3,000 MW of electricity to the region have been temporarily shut down due to high silt levels in the water that runs its generators.

Electricity generated by the Nathpa Jhakri, Karcham-Wangtoo and Chamera II hydro-power plants are fed to Northern Grid that supplies power to 28% of the country's population. Despite this, power grid authorities said the situation cannot be termed a grid disturbance.
