Tarapur contributes 33% of India's total atomic power generation

The Tarapur Atomic Power Station generated a total of 2,780 mus from April to June accounting for 33 percent of India's total atomic power generated in the period.

 

In June 2012 alone, the units of TAPS generated about 1,000 mus of power.

However, the contribution of TAPS to the national atomic power generation has declined over the last few years. It contributed 42.25 per cent power in 2008-09, 42.43 per cent in 2009-10, 34.45 per cent in 2010-11 and 30.23 per cent in 2011-12, the release said.

The cumulative power generation of unit 1 was 42,406 mus, unit 2 - 42,991 mus, unit 3 - 18,097 units and unit 4 - 17,647 mus.

The total generation of power in the country of all the atomic power plants stood at 32,455 mus in 2011-12, 26,473 mus in 2010-11, 10,831 mus in 2009-10 and 14,927 mus in 2008-09. There has been a growth of 117.42 per cent power generation in the country since 2008-09, the report indicated.

As compared to last year, the TAPS units have during the first quarter completed a total generation of 28.32 per cent power, the release said.

The plant has two boiling water reactors and as many pressurised heavy water reactors, it added.

Since its commissioning, TAPS has generated a total of 1,21,141 mus (million units) of power till June end 2012.
