
India's Andhra Pradesh eyes 10GW of solar plants
The state intends to give farmers nine hours of free electricity everyday.
The government of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh plans to create an affiliate of its AP Power Generation Corporation, named Andhra Pradesh Green Energy Corporation, to develop 10 GW of solar power plants. Andhra Pradesh intends to supply farmers with quality power and ensure that they get nine hours of free electricity per day. The state government is currently sponsoring its agricultural sector with subsidies to provide free power supply and lift irrigation schemes. The aid, which has been continuously increasing, costs more than INR100bn (US$1.4bn) per year.
