
India take up nearly 60% of Asia Pacific's power tenders in Q4
The number of tenders in the region hit 1,838 in the quarter.
For the final quarter of 2019, a majority or 58.7% of the power industry tenders in the Asia Pacific came from India, where it rose 4.2% MoM to 1,078 tenders, according to data from GlobalData.
It was followed by the Philippines (16.8% share) with 309 tenders, and Bangladesh (10% share) with 184 tenders.
Overall, the number of tenders in the region remained relatively flat at 1,838 in Q4 2019, compared to the last four-quarter average of 1,843. Thermal accounted for over half (53.3%) of the region’s tenders at 282, followed by solar with 191 tenders (36.1%), and hydro with 42 tenders (7.9%).
Transmission and distribution (T&D) projects also emerged as the most popular segment amongst the tenders, with 991 tenders. It is followed by T&D equipment (335) and generation equipment (277). About half of the tenders were about project implementation.
The top issuer of tenders in the region for the quarter in terms of capacity was the Solar Energy Corporation of India, with 3GW from four tenders. It is followed by NTPC in India, with 2.6GW from ten tenders, and a tender from JSC Uzbekenergo in Uzbekistan with 900MW capacity.
